A Lovely Morning at the Lavender Farm

K: I've never been a huge fan of the color purple; however, lavender is one of my favorite scents and this spring, Brandon and I vowed that we would visit a nearby lavender farm once the blooms occurred. We drove about thirty minutes outside of San Antonio to the most charming farm, complete with fresh peaches, farmers market veggies, chickens, and of course, lavender. Although our warm winter this past year caused mediocre blooms, we had a blast exploring the fields, relishing in the sweet smell of lavender.

B: When we arrived at the lavender farm, a large flock of chickens were digging through a stockpile of fresh vegetables scraps. After several minutes of coaxing Katherine to move towards the chickens for some close up classic farm photos, I accepted defeat. I handed Katherine the camera, picked up an ear of corn, and squatted down next to my feathered buds. They voraciously pecked and devoured the ear of corn in seconds. I was half laughing at the chickens, and half laughing at Katherine's comments about them trying to peck at me. Several minutes later, I convinced Katherine that if we adopted the county lifestyle in the future, we would be bring some baby chickens home to raise as our own - with myself being the main caretaker.

K: How darling is this pink tractor? I couldn't resist a photo right next to it, partly because my dress blended perfectly. This dress is everything I need for summer: flouncy and flirty with delicate details like the lace trip across the bust line. I love that the color is somewhere in between pink and purple, making it easy to pair with other accessories like my splendid espadrille flats. This OTS dress is from a cute little store called Altar'd State. The store has Christian roots and a sort of "bohemian chic" vibe with a lot of off-white, lace, and ruffles. I love how breezy it is for summer and noticed that despite our 90 degree weather, I wasn't sweating.

B: I could not get over the label stating the purpose of a small cream colored building at the lavender farm reading "DEER OR BEER COOLER". I was intrigued. Naturally I investigated. Two bags of deer corn and one old half drunken case of warm domestic beer. Though I was disappointed in my best for something interesting, the sign was 100% accurate.

B: Our morning at the lavender farm led me to believe that we needed a little fun to happen. Running through the expansive rows of peach trees in the orchard called like a beckoning light. However, it was fenced off with a sign reading "Private Property". Next best thing: jumping over the lavender plants themselves.

K: While at the farm, we were inspired to make lavender lemonade with some of the tea bags that the little store had. When we got home, I made a big pitcher for us to enjoy the rest of the afternoon. I've included the recipe below so you can try it for yourself this summer:

On Katherine: Altar'd State dress, Splendid shoes, Kendra Scott earrings, Olive & Pique hat (from a boutique in San Antonio), similar here and here

On Brandon: Theory shirt (similar here and here), J. Crew pants, Shinola belt, Tods shoes

Lavender Lemonade:

1 1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 gallon of water
1 cup lavender tea (we used two tea bags for extra flavor)
1 cup of sugar (the recipe calls for two but we did less)

  6. I totally agree about purple! Though I also love lavender. Everything I buy is lavender-scented. This place is super cute! I've been to a lavender farm in Oregon but it wasn't as pretty as this one!
